Rwanda's Formula 1 Grand Prix: What the Historic Deal Could Mean for Tourism
On 13 October 2026, Formula 1 announced a 10-year agreement for Rwanda to host the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda. The race will run at a new circuit in Bugesera, about 40 km south of Kigali, beside the new Kigali International Airport, starting in the early 2030s.

The event will bring the World Championship back to Africa for the first time since the South African Grand Prix at Kyalami in 1993. No race date has been set. If you are planning a trip, see our Rwanda tours: https://www.inkatours.co.rw/rwanda-tours.html
Likely changes for travellers: more flights into the new airport, more hotel rooms in Kigali and Bugesera, and a new reason for race fans to stay on for gorillas, Akagera or Lake Kivu.
